  • Comfy seats sold me. - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

The Solara was a compromise between the V6 Accord, the Passat and the V6 Camry SE. The Solara seats (leather with lumbar support) were some of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. The engine feels pretty strong and is very smooth. The interior is very elegant, except for the cheesy fake wood accents. Otherwise, great ride, good power, distinctive styling (though from some angles it looks bulbous), 2.9 % financing for 60 months. There is a slight pull to the left. I have heard from message boards that this is common with this car.

Great car but bad visibility out the back. That is the only drawback.

  • Initial Excelleration - Poor & Brakes - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

Over all I would give my Solara SE V6 a low grade because of its very much like a turbo engine. A friend of mine is a Toyota mechanic and he explained why there is so much excelleration delay similiar to a turbo lag engine. For this review, Im only referring to low speed performance. At highway speeds it is more than adequate. I think it is unsafe, because when you need instant excelleration, its just not there. I have owned a manual turbo engine car before and it was very responsive from low end to high end speeds. Would I buy another Solara? NO! Another problem I found is that the brakes are to spungy. I dont get that positive feedback from the brake pedal.

  • Problems - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

Seems some Solaras have a problem. 1. on some, the tire pressure light wont go off, and the service depts dont know how to fix it. On some, the car pulls to the left, and even after 3 alignments, they cant fix it. And on some, the dashboard rattles after a few hundred miles. I got all 3 problems, and am waiting for arbitration to get my money back! :(

Unfortunately at the time I am writing this review my Toyota is at the dealer for repairs. I had it 60 days with absolutely no trouble at all. Its an eye catcher, very reliable and great to drive. However, recently the check engine light came on,the temperture guage stop working and the car failed to start. It also pulls to the left as a previous reviewer had mentioned,BUT its still awesome to me. I still recommend it. The acceleration was what sold me. My car is all black.

  • Chessy Interior Trim Ruins Great Car - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

A quite ride with surprisingly good acceleration for a four-cylinder engine. Gas mileage could be better, and perhaps Toyota will offer a hybrid in the near future.

  • Many annoying defects - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

I have had a significant number of problems with my Solara (none involving the engine, thankfully), including significant rattling in the dashboard (6 repairs, and counting), rattling/loose passenger window, whistling of the door seals at highway speeds, defective tire pressure indicator, defective rocker (retracting) mechanism in sunroof, defective driving lights, etc. Very shocking, given Toyotas reputation for reliability.

  • 5 Years 105,000 Miles - Still Love It - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara
    By -

Eight cars to date, this is the first car Ive owned where I put more that 50,000 miles on it. This is my second Toyota. Hasnt had any problems, engine is still quiet and smooth, and parts still fit together like they were new. Mileage has gone down some, from 30 to 28 MPG - still excellent for me. Was not looking for a sport car, just a sporty look, so the performance (or lack thereof) isnt important to me. I never thought I would have a car this long, and I am in no hurry to buy another.
